The life story of a Presbyterian minister from Brooklyn who was involved in the temperance movement and helped to organize the Republican Party in 1856. There is an interesting chapter about his ministry during the Civil War and is his support of Abraham Lincoln. Baker & Taylor Co., 1902. Illustrated with five photographic blank and white plates. First edition ("Published September, 1902" stated on copyright page and "Twelfth Thous and" stated on title page). Hardback, brown cloth with gilt lettering and design, top edge in gilt, no DJ. 356 pages. Book Condition : Good; pages are clean and bright with no writing or tears. Plates are intact. Front hinge is cracked inside at frontispiece but pages are secure. Gilt on top book edge is rubbed. Cover is clean with light scuffing and some creasing / bending to front broad. Edges have some rubbing and light wear.
